"Giving birth to my first son was everything I ever dreamed of and this is thanks to the team of doulas I had. Before labour, I was helped to prepare physically and mentally for my big day. I had so much uncertainty in many ways but with their support, everything became so clear and I felt very empowered. During labour they advocated on my behalf when I couldn't find the words. At one point, my delivery plan changed after 10+ hours since I had been in active labour. They made sure the delivery team gave me a space to process and make decisions pertinent to my delivery alone with my partner. I never felt overwhelmed with their presence, they felt like a warm candlelight in the room." All thru the night I was accompanied and reassured as they captured beautiful moments with my partner while in my most vulnerable state. I treasure those photos with my life now. They assisted in every possible way thru the whole ordeal. I believe they spent about 18 hours if not more in the delivery room with me, until I had my baby in my arms. And at the end they also emotionally supported my thru postpartum. Making sure I was being taken care of by nurses and midwives as well as checking on me emotionally relive what was for me the most difficult and beautiful day of my life. Having a doula is nothing of what I expected.. but at the same time it was everything I needed without knowing. I will always hold a special play for them in my heart."
